Heart Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week – Week 2
The Heart of America Athletic Conference selected its Heart Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Monday, as Central Methodist's Dayana Montenegro raced to the Heart Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor, while Cassidy Nerland of Grand View was named the Heart Field Athlete of the Week.
Montenegro took part in the highly competitive Nebraska Graduate Classic over the weekend and placed fourth in the women's 400m dash with a time of 58.64, placing fourth.
She then hit the NAIA 'B' Standard mark in the 600m run with a time of 1:37.30 to finish in fifth-place.
Nerland won both the women's weight throw and shot put at the Battle at the Hive, hosted by St. Ambrose University.
In the weight throw, the Williams, Iowa native hit the NAIA 'A' Standard with a toss of 16.26m. It's the 10th best mark in the NAIA.
In the shot put, she won the event with a throw of 12.85m, a season best.
