No. 2 Grand View and No. 6 Benedictine to Host NAIA FCS First Round Games
The Heart of America Athletic Conference will be represented by two nationally ranked teams in the First Round of the 2022 NAIA Football Championship Series this Saturday, November 19.
2022 Heart North Champion and No. 2 nationally ranked Grand View University will host No. 15 Carroll (Mont.) on Saturday at 12 pm in Des Moines, Iowa.
Under head coach Joe Woodley, the Vikings are one of just three team's across the NAIA still undefeated, with their overall record of 11-0 and 5-0 mark in the Heart North.
Last season, the Vikings advanced all the way to the NAIA-FCS Championship game in Durham, North Carolina. Grand View has advanced to the NAIA National Championship game twice in its history, winning the national title in 2013 and finishing as the national runner-up in 2021.
The Vikings have appeared in the NAIA-FCS 11 times and are 12-9 all-time in the event.
2022 Heart South Champion and No. 6 nationally ranked Benedictine College is set to host No. 10 Southwestern (Kan.) on Saturday at 12 pm in Atchison, Kansas.
Under second year head coach Joel Osborn, the Ravens enter the event 10-1 overall and captured the Heart Conference title with a 5-0 record in the Heart South.
The Ravens' only loss came at the end of regulation against No. 2 Grand View on September 3, 44-42.
This is the first appearance for the Ravens in the NAIA-FCS since 2018. That season, BC advanced all the way to the NAIA National Championship game and finished as the NAIA National Runner-up.
