The Mount Mercy University Mustangs have been selected for the Musco Team Sportsmanship Award for the sport of outdoor track & field, announced by the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The Mustangs, under head coach Ryan Scheckel, earned the award for their display of the NAIA's Five Core Character Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
Teams are nominated throughout the season by Athletics Administrators, Game Officials, Coaches, Student-Athletes and Fans.
Here is what the nominators had to say about the Mustangs:
"The Mount Mercy University track & field program consistently encourages not only to their teammates but other teams as well. Being rowdy and clapping for them as they do well or encouraging as needed. Often you can find the Mustangs in the camps of others at track meets, not only socializing, but giving out coaching ques to help them perform. They are always showing good sportsmanship."
