The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its first Heart Men's Basketball Player of the Week awards, presented by WinWon of the 2024-25 season on Monday.
Siddiq Canty of Graceland University was named the Heart Offensive Player of the Week, while Ahmed Mahgoub of No. 19 ranked Baker University was selected the first-ever Heart Defensive Player of the Week.
This is the first season in the history of NAIA and Heart basketball that there will be a student-athlete awarded with the Heart Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week award.
Mahgoub made that history after leading Baker to a 2-1 record last week. The senior had three steals, a block and helped Baker force (RV) Keiser to shoot under 35-percent from the floor (33.3), in Baker's road win over the Seahawks.
He also had three more steals in the loss at No. 22 Florida Memorial.
Canty and the Yellowjackets stayed perfect on the young season and moved to 4-0 with wins over Waldorf, 76-60, and Mount Marty, 79-57.
The junior averaged 23 points per game with 22 against Waldorf and Mount Marty.
