
MNU Wins Regional Cheer Qualifier
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - MidAmerica Nazarene won the cheer division at the 2017 NAIA Cheer and Dance Northwest Regional Qualifier, Friday evening at the Collins Center at Baker University.
The Pioneers posted a winning score of 73.4 points to win the division and earn an automatic berth to the NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance National Championship, March 10-11 at Oklahoma City University. Graceland finished third in cheer with 66.20833 points, while Benedictine (61.94583) and Baker (61.55417) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Baker was the top finisher in the dance division among the Heart of America Athletic Conference teams taking part in the inaugural event, placing third with a score of 83.04167. Benedictine took fifth place with a total of 65.47917, while Graceland took ninth place with a final tally of 53.72917. Midland (Neb.) captured the dance division with a winning score of 89.875.
At-large selections to the NAIA national championship will be awarded to teams based on their scores at their respective regional competitions, and will be announced next week.
