
2022 Heart Men’s Soccer All-Conference Teams Announced
The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its 2022 Heart Men’s Soccer All-Conference teams and major award winners on Wednesday afternoon.
The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its 2022 Heart Men's Soccer All-Conference teams and major award winners on Wednesday afternoon.
The award winners were voted on by all 13 Heart head coaches.
Sam Green of the No. 9 nationally ranked Missouri Valley Vikings was selected for two awards, the 2022 Heart Men's Soccer Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year.
He helped lead the Vikings to a Heart Regular Season Co-Championship. The sophomore from Bromley, England led the Heart in goals scored with 12 in Heart games and had six game-winners in conference play. So far this season, Green has 15 goals scored overall and six assists.
Jesse Bank of the No. 3 nationally ranked Central Methodist Eagles was selected the Heart Defensive Player of the Year.
Bank and the Eagles defense earned nine shutouts this season, including six in Heart play. The Kruiningen, Netherlands native helped lead the Eagles to the Heart Regular Season Co-Championship, as they tied the Vikings.
This marked the fifth-straight Heart Championship for CMU. The Eagles will serve as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Heart Conference Tournament.
CMU head coach Alex Nichols led CMU to a 12-0-5 overall regular season mark and 9-0-3 Heart record to earn the Heart Regular Season Co-Championship. This marks the fifth-straight season that Coach Nichols has garnered the Coach of the Year award (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). He has also led the Eagles to two NAIA National Championships (2018, 2019).
No. 11 nationally ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University's Jony Munoz was selected the Heart Newcomer of the Year after a stellar season with the Pioneers. The freshman from Olathe, Kansas scored six goals this season for the Pioneers and recorded six assists. He also supplied MNU with three game-winning goals.
Demian (Beer) De Vos of Central Methodist was selected the Heart Freshman of the Year. The freshman goalkeeper allowed just six goals in Heart conference action in his first season with the Eagles.
