Final Heart Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week of 2023 Announced
The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its final Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday.
Gage Hiebert of Baker was selected the Heart Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, while Tafara Hondonga earned the Heart Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Hiebert and the Wildcats hosted the ZK Invite on Saturday, and the junior competed in the javelin and hammer throw.
He won the javelin with a toss of 59.31m and hit the NAIA 'A' Standard, qualifying him for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
He also competed in the hammer throw, placing seventh with a throw of 46.65m.
Hondonga competed in four events at the Grand View Vikings Classic and one at the Drake Relays last week.
At the GV Viking Classic, the senior won the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.85, placed second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.18 and first in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 41.42.
At the Drake Relays the senior competed in the 4x100-meter relays and placed 11th in a time of 41.77.
