2023 Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field Postseason Awards Announced
The Heart of America Athletic Conference completed the 2023 Heart Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 6 on the campus of Mount Mercy University. The Heart is now pleased to announce its 2023 Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field Postseason awards.
The following awards were voted on by the Heart Track & Field head coaches:
2023 Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year – Miradieu Joseph – Grand View University
In just his first season as head coach, Coach Joseph led the Vikings to the 2023 Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field Conference Championship. This is the fifth-straight Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the Vikings.
Under the direction of head coach Joseph, the Vikings earned five first-place finishes including the 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, 800-meter, 1,500-meter, 5,000-meter race walk, and discus.
Joseph was also named the 2023 Heart Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
2023 Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year – Zuva Bvekerwa – William Penn University
Coach Bvekerwa was also selected the 2023 Heart Men's Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year.
In the Heart Outdoor Championships, he helped lead the Statesmen to a first-place finish in the decathlon, as Justin Moeller won the decathlon for WPU. Moeller had a meet record, 6,638 points. Bvekerwa also led the Statesmen 4x100-meter relay team to a first-place finish time of 41.64.
2023 Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field – Co-Field Athletes of the Meet – Justin Moeller – William Penn University and Niles Siefken – Grand View University
Moeller won the men's decathlon at the Heart Outdoor Championships with a meet and school record, 6,638 points.
Siefken won the men's discus with a throw of 48.35m, he also placed seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.07m.
2023 Heart Men's Outdoor Track & Field - Track Athlete of the Meet – Carter Huyser Grand View University
Huyser took home first-place in the men's 800-meter in a time of 1:54.15 and won the men's 1,500-meter in a time of 3:58.61.
