Benedictine Men’s Cross Country Wins Heart Cross Country Championship

The Benedictine College men's cross country team ran past the competition on Saturday at the 2023 Heart Men's Cross Country Championship at Seminole Valley Cross Country Course in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday.

The Ravens won their third Heart Championship in the history of the program, as they last won in 2018.

BC won the event that featured 13 teams and 89 total runners in an 8K race, hosted by Mount Mercy University.

Benedictine's David Mannella won the 8K in a time of 24:57 to earn the individual Heart title.

Fellow Raven Gabriel Friess placed second overall with his time of 25:08 and Brandon Williams of William Penn finished third in a time of 25:10.

Park University finished in second place as a team, while William Penn placed third. Park University head coach Rikki Hacker was selected the 2023 Heart Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. 

Benedictine has now earned an automatic bid to the 68th Annual NAIA Men's Cross Country Championship, November 17 in Vancouver, Washington.

Runners who finished in the Top 10 of each race were named to the Heart First Team All-Conference. Finishers 11-15, earned a spot on the Honorable Mention All-Conference teams.
