Berlage, Smith Capture Musco Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards

The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its Musco Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week awards on Monday.

Grace Berlage of MidAmerica Nazarene University was selected the Musco Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Laila Smith of William Penn University earned the Musco Softball Player of the Week.

Berlage allowed just one run in two complete game victories last week for the Pionners, a 4-0 win over Dordt (Iowa) and a 3-1 win over University of Northwestern Ohio, 3-1.

She struck out 10 batters in that stretch and allowed just six hits.

In eight games last week, Smith hit .609 with six doubles, six runs scored, four RBI and a home run. She went 14-of-23 at the plate.
