Heart Announces 2023 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams and Individual Award Winners

The Heart of America Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2023 Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference teams and individual award winners on Wednesday, prior to the Heart Conference Tournament.

The list features players from across the conference that were awarded to the First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams, as well as the All-Defensive Team.

The awards and All-Conference teams were selected by the Heart head coaches.

Below please find the list of 2023 winners:

2023 Heart Women's Basketball Player of the Year – Leianya Massenat – Central Methodist University

Massenat put together a stellar sophomore regular season, averaging 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. She was also selected the Heart Women's Basketball Player of the Week twice this season.

She helped lead the Eagles to the Heart regular season championship and No. 1 seed in this week's Heart Conference Tournament.

 

2023 Heart Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year – Zutorya Cook – Central Methodist University

Cook finished the regular season with an impressive 102 steals, tops in the Heart, averaging 3.6 steals per game. She was named Heart Player of the Week back on December 5.

 

2023 Heart Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year – McKenzie Lathrom – Culver-Stockton College

Lathrom had a terrific first year with the Wildcats, averaging 14.3 points per game, as well as 3.6 rebounds per game and 3.4 assists per game. She also shot 45.5-percent from the field and 39.3-percent from three-point range.

She was selected the Heart Player of the Week on Monday, February 21.

 

2023 Heart Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year – Avery Oetting – Culver-Stockton College

Oetting appeared in all 28 games for the Wildcats and averaged 10.0 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game. She also shot, 83.8-precent from the free-throw line.

 

2023 Heart Women's Basketball Assistant Coach of the Year – Camden Levett – Central Methodist University

Levett entered his first season as assistant coach for the Eagles, after his time as a graduate assistant with the program. Coach Levett was instrumental in the Eagles' Heart conference regular season championship in 2022-23.

 

2023 Heart Women's Basketball Coach of the Year – Mike Davis – Central Methodist University

Davis is in year 21 at CMU, his alma mater, and helped lead the Eagles to a perfect overall record of 28-0 and 22-0 in the Heart.

The Eagles last won the Heart regular season championship in 2020 and last won the Heart Conference Tournament in 2020 as well.
