Madison Reed Earns Third Heart Defensive Player of the Week, Melanie Sanchez Collects First Offensive POTW

The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its Heart Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday, as Madison Reed of William Penn University earned her third Heart Defensive Player of the Week of the 2023 season, while Culver-Stockton's Melanie Sanchez won her first Heart Offensive Player of the Week.

Reed and the Statesmen went 2-0 last week with an impressive 22-2 win over Missouri Valley and a 17-9 win over Culver-Stockton.

The senior goalkeeper had three saves against MVC and eight against Culver-Stockton.

Sanchez and the Wildcats went 1-1 last week, with a 17-6 win over the University of St. Mary, 17-6 and a 17-9 loss to William Penn.

In the win over USM, the senior broke a program record with eight goals scored and added three assists. She followed that up with two goals scored against WPU. On the week, she attempted 19 shots with 18 on goal.
