Final Heart Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week of 2023 Announced

The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its final Heart Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday.

Allena Rowland of Clarke University was selected the Heart Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Madison Sutton of Benedictine earned the Heart Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award.

Rowland competed in four events at two track meets last week. At the University of Dubuque Relays, she won the 200-meter race in a time of 25.43.

Then a day lates she competed in the 400-meter, 400-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay at the Viking Classic.

She won the 400-meter in a time of 56.96, won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.34 and placed second along her teammates in a time of 4:08.00. The Hereford, Arizona native hit the NAIA 'B' standard of qualification for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in the 400-meter and 400-meter hurdles. 

Sutton competed at Baker's ZK Wildcat Open and won both the hammer and discus. The junior won the hammer with a toss of 53.35m and placed first out of 17 competitors. She hit the NAIA 'A' standard, qualifying her for the NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.

The Lexington, Nebraska native also won the discus with a mark of 44.60m to win over all 16 competitors. She hit the NAIA 'A' standard, qualifying her for the NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
