Mount Mercy Duo Captures First Heart Cross Country Runner of the Week Honors of 2022

In the first edition of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week awards of 2022, Mount Mercy University's Deanna Newhouse and Ryan Mitchell swept the Heart Women's and Men's awards respectively.

Newhouse earned the Heart Women's Runner of the Week after placing second in the Corridor XC Clash in a race of 40 runners.

She finished the 5K in a time of 19:58 and was over 30 seconds faster than the third-place finisher. The Mustangs also placed first overall as a team.

Mitchell, a freshman from California, also ran at the Corridor XC Clash and placed first, in a time of 16:16. He raced passed all 72 competitors in the 5K race. He helped lead the Mustangs to a first place team finish as well.
